BJP’s Kausar Jahan has been elected as the new chairman of the Delhi Haj Committee.
In a major setback, Aam Aadmi Party lost control of the Delhi Haj Committee for the first time.
Ms Jahan is the second woman to hold this position. Former Delhi Congress chief Tajdar Babar was the only woman till now to have held this post.
In the election held at the Delhi Secretariat, Ms Jahan received three of the five votes cast by committee members.
Speaking on her appointment, she said ‘PM Modi’s govt has fought for the Muslim community’s rights. Women feel safe after ban on Triple Talaq. It is our responsibility to work on reducing the problems for those going for Haj. The issues will be dealt with accordingly.’
