The veteran film and stage actor passed away at Pune’s Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital after being admitted in a critical condition. Earlier, The Free Press Journal had reported that the thespian’s condition had worsened.
However, Mr. Gokhale’s family did not issue any official statement on the actor’s health prior to his demise.
Television actor and former Bigg Boss contestant Aly Goni was one of the first celebrities to react to the news of his demise. The actor took to Twitter to share an image of Vikram and wrote, “May god rest your soul in peace sir 🙏🏼 #VikramGokhale”
Mr. Gokhale featured in Bollywood hits like Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Dil Se, De Dana Dan, Hichki, Nikamma and Mission Mangal among others. He had a memorable turn as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s character’s father in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 1999 film ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.’
Mr. Gokhale was also a verteran of Marathi theatre and television. He made is directorial debut in 2010 with the Marathi film Aaghaat.
Having worked in over 90 films and plays, he retired from stage activities in 2016.
